Patrick Claybon talks about sports for a living. Sounds really good doesn’t it?
Growing up in the Birmingham area, Patrick was thrilled to have a chance to work at WIAT 42. A former Alabama State Decathlon champion from Mountain Brook, Patrick’s memories of being an athlete grow fuzzier by the day. There’s nothing better to remedy that, than to broadcast stories of athletic excellence from atop Red Mountain.
Patrick’s journalism career started where so many do, at the Hall School of Journalism on the campus of Troy University. Working as part of the TrojanVision news team in the mid 2000’s Patrick eventually landed his first job at WTBF radio in Troy. Soon after graduation he was offered his first on-camera job, as the Dale County bureau reporter for WTVY-TV. At WTVY, Patrick eventually climbed the ranks all the way to a brief stint as Sports Director before moving back home to Birmingham.
In his free time, Patrick enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, basketball and golf. At times he wishes he didn’t live and die with every play of Troy football, but hey, we’ve all got our issues right?
