AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) — On Thursday, former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik responded to numerous allegations of NCAA violations including academic fraud, cash payments to players and numerous recruiting violations.
Chizik said the recent allegations and the story posted by former New York Times journalist Selena Roberts “portrays Auburn University, current and former coaches, professors, fans, supporters and community officials in a false light.”
According to Chizik’s statement, Roberts’ story is lacking in the areas of facts and logic.
“The statements are very generalized accusations devoid of substance,” Chizik said in the statement.
He claims he never authorized, instructed or directed any changes to grades of his student-athletes or any illegal payment to student-athletes during his tenure at Auburn.
