Alabama Gymnastics Leads Nation in Attendance

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama gymnastics team, host of Saturday’s NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Championship, led the nation in both overall and single meet attendance this season.

The Crimson Tide averaged 10,266 fans per meet through the regular season, with five home and five road dates. Alabama was the only collegiate women’s program in the nation to average over 10,000 fans per outing this season, with Utah gymnastics, who will compete in Coleman Coliseum this Saturday, coming in second with 9,462.

“Our fans are simply amazing,” UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. “They are constantly there to support us and take us to new heights. This season we have competed in front of great crowds from our first meet at Missouri all the way through the regular season, including our 10th sellout crowd against the Kentucky Wildcats in January.”

Alabama’s capacity crowd of 15,075 against Kentucky on Jan. 25 was the largest women’s gymnastics crowd in the nation this season, with Utah coming in second with a crowd of 14,917.

The Tide was second in average home attendance bringing in 13,422 fans per meet this season, the second highest total in school history. All five of the Tide’s home meets drew over 11,000 per meet with three going of 13,900 fans. Utah gymnastics was first with 14,349 per home meet this season while Tennessee basketball was third among all collegiate women’s programs with 11,993 per game at home.

Alabama and Utah gymnastics along with Tennessee basketball were the only three collegiate women’s programs to draw over 10,000 fans per home event this season.

In the Southeastern Conference, the top three home draws in women’s athletics were Alabama gymnastics (13,422), Tennessee basketball (11,993) and Georgia gymnastics (8,721).

On Saturday, Alabama and Utah will face off against Denver, Kent State, BYU and Iowa State starting at 6 p.m. in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional. The top-two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles, Calif.
