BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — UAB women’s basketball head coach Audra Smith has accepted the same position at Clemson University, it was announced on Monday.
Smith, who compiled a 138-138 (.500) record at UAB, leaves the program following a nine-year stint that saw the Blazers garner three postseason appearances.
“We had already begun discussions of a contract extension for Audra (prior to her involvement with the opening at Clemson),” UAB Director of Athletics Brian Mackin said. “We are very pleased for Audra with the opportunity that she has to become the head coach at Clemson and wish she and her family the best in the future. She built a very solid program both academically and competitively.”
Most recently, the Blazers finished the 2012-13 season with an 18-13 overall record and WNIT first-round appearance. Under Smith, the Blazers made it to the 2007 WNIT and won the 2011 WBI Championship.
