HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — The Hoover Fire Department is making use of new tools.

On Monday, the department showed off  medical tools used to make the jobs of paramedics and first responders easier.

The department recently used one of the tools, an oxygen sensor and carbon monoxide detector, at the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa.

On March 29, 2013, Hoover Fire Department officials responded to calls from the resort and discovered unhealthy amounts of carbon monoxide in certain rooms on the fifth and sixth floors.

In addition, the Hoover Fire Department displayed a tool called AccuVein.

The device acts as a visual aid to help paramedics detect veins and blood flow in possible patients.
