Scales of justice and gavel

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Center Point man is facing a Capital Murder charge in the 2012 killing of 28-year-old Matthew Joshua Hale.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, detectives charged 19-year-old Demarquis Glennerd Brown of Center Point with Capital Murder.

On April 16, 2012, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received calls about a man lying near the edge of the road on Sharon Church Road north of Pinson. When officials arrived on the scene they found that Hale had been shot. Paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.

Sheriff’s Investigators received new information and evidence about the case in March of 2013 after nearly a year of several leads that never produced any arrests.

Brown was already in the Jefferson County Jail on the following charges: Trafficking Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Carrying a Pistol Without License and Failure to Appear on a charge of Theft of Property in the Second Degree.

Brown is being held without bond.
