(WIAT) — Severe weather season is upon us and many educators don’t want to not take any risks with student safety.

Walker County Schools decided early on Wednesday to close all of its schools at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

“It’s better to be safe than sorry, because you don’t know. You can’t predict the weather these days,” parent Wynetta Williams said.

In addition to Walker County Schools, a number of other schools in the area are closing or dismissing early on Thursday.
