(WIAT) — Adding some healthy options to salads could help keep people healthy and help those wanted to shed unwanted pounds attain their goal.
Certain common ingredients in salads, such as croutons, cheese and even types of greens can add calories to the salad.
According to health expert Kim Wilson, adding nutrients and mineral-rich fruits and vegetables such as apples, avocados and red bell peppers can make the salad healthier and doesn’t add any unwanted calories.
Wilson also suggests adding darker greens, such as romaine lettuce, because it contains 40 percent protein and is packed with vitamins.
