(WIAT) — Birmingham is one of ten communities invited to compete in the annual All-America City Awards.

The award is one of the most coveted civic recognition programs in the nation.

“We’ve received a lot of national recognition over the last several months,” Mayor William Bell said on Friday. “All of this has built a crescendo which the National Civic League has recognized that Birmingham is on the right path.”

The winner of the award will be announced in June.

Birmingham last won the award in 1970.
