BIRMINGHAM, AL (WIAT) – The Southeastern Conference and ESPN announced a news conference for Tuesday in Atlanta, Georgia. Reports indicate that they will announce the creation of the SEC Network. Rumors have swirled for some time about the impending network. Commissioner Mike Slive will be in attendance Tuesday at the Hyatt Atlanta Regency.
The SEC Network will likely launch in August of 2014, after several of the league’s third-tier television contracts expire. ESPN will likely become the league’s primary broadcast partner.
College Football insiders believe that the financial terms of the deal will likely exceed those of the Big Ten Network. Schools in the Big Ten have received roughly $7 million from the network.
