(WIAT) — Weather preparedness is one of the most important topics as the severe weather season begins in Alabama.
A number of steps can be taken to make sure you and your family are safe from common severe weather threats.
Representatives with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) recommend that if you see lighting you should head to a structure with a hard top. This includes buildings, homes and vehicles.
FEMA also recommends building an emergency kit.
The kit should include an emergency plan for every member of the family.
Lastly, FEMA says to be sure to secure any outdoor objects before severe weather begins.
