UPDATE: Birmingham man dies after shooting; wife taken into custody

UPDATE: The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office has advised the Birmingham Police Department to rule this case as self-defense. Investigators presented evidence to the D.A.’s office who ruled that the victim’s wife was defending herself against victim when he was shot. No arrests will be made in this investigation.


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Friday night at 1408 30th Street Ensley around 10:15 p.m.

Police were called to the location to investigate a call of a person shot. The victim was found inside suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The victim has been identified as Percy Coleman, 45, of Birmingham.

Officers received information that the victim was in a domestic altercation with his wife right before the shooting. Officials have taken the victim’s wife into custody.
