Head and neck cancer screenings available for free

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — April is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, and St. Vincent’s Health Systems is offering free head and neck cancer screenings.

The screenings will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2012 at the Bruno Cancer Center.

The screening process may include a visual inspection of the oral and naval cavities, neck, throat and tongues by using small mirrors or lights.

Physicians may also feel for lumps on the neck, lips, gums and cheeks.

People who have a family history of face, neck or throat cancer and those who heavily partake in tobacco and alcohol are encouraged to visit the free screening.

Appointments will begin at 5 p.m. and must be scheduled by calling 205-939-7878.
