BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration wants to require event data recorders in all new cars by 2014.
More than 90 percent of all new cars are being built with the event data recorders. It functions similarly to a flight cockpit reporter.
The event data recorders are programmed to record everything that happens in your car.
Some people say this intrudes your right to privacy.
According to police, the recorder does not pose a privacy issue.
Critics of the device say that driver data collection should only be done with a driver’s consent, not a requirement.
