VANCE, Ala. (AP) – A major union is trying to organize workers at Alabama’s Mercedes-Benz plant near Tuscaloosa.

The Tuscaloosa News reports that the United Auto Workers has created a website — uawvance.com — targeting workers at the plant in Vance.

Multiple reports state that the UAW is trying to organize workers at the 3,000-employee plant in an effort supported by the German union IG Metall.

Felyicia Jerald, a spokeswoman for the plant, said Mercedes-Benz has always been neutral on the topic of unionization at its Vance auto factory. She said that stance is continuing in the latest campaign.

The German automaker chose its site in Vance in 1993 and began producing vehicles there in 1997.
