SEC – RD2 Results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 2 Alabama women’s golf team fired the lowest round of the day by 10 strokes to take the second round lead at the 2013 SEC Championships at the par-72, 6,401-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club Saturday.

The Crimson Tide carded a 5-over-par round of 293 and lead second-place Mississippi State (+33, 609) by 12 shots headed into Sunday’s final round at 21-over 597. Georgia is in third place at 35-over 611 while Kentucky and LSU tied for fourth at 38-oiver 614.

“We played very well and had some good momentum-saving putts,” Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. “We got up-and-down well and made some birdies on the back side. We had two girls shoot under par on a very difficult golf course. It was a solid day that had everyone involved and playing one shot at a time like we like it.”

Junior Stephanie Meadow has the 36-hole lead at even-par 144 after a sparkling 3-under-par round of 69. She is the only player in two rounds to shot in the 60s. The Jordanstown, Northern Ireland, native has a 2-shot lead on teammate Jennifer Kirby.

Kirby, a senior from Paris, Ontario, shot 1-under-par 71 Saturday to hold second position alone at 2-over 146, one shot ahead of State’s Ally McDonald (+3, 147). Kirby was 2-over on her round after 10 holes, but played the final eight in 3-under with birdies on the 12th, 13th and 18th holes.

Junior Hannah Collier rebounded from a difficult opening round with a 3-over 75 on Friday to fuel the Crimson Tide charge. Collier, a member at Greystone G&CC, made back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to get to 1-over par before a double bogey on the difficult finishing hole.

Freshman Emma Talley closed with a birdie on the par-5 18th hole to finish with a 6-over 78 and count as the Tide’s fourth score. Sophomore Daniela Lendl was dropped from the Alabama tally at 9-over 81.

Alabama will play with Mississippi State and Georgia in Sunday’s final round.
