TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) — As the adage goes, there’s safety in numbers.
However, many people are now concerned about security at future sporting events after the Boston Marathon bombings.
The Aaron’s 499 Sprint Cup race will be held at Talladega Superspeedway on May 5, 2013.
Some people are worried that the famous track might be a target with more than 100,000 fans expected to attend.
Jeff Gordon, a six-time winner at Talladega, is not worried.
“Our relationship with our fans, in interaction, is unlike any other sport,” Gordon said. “I know that NASCAR has already stepped up to make sure all of us are safe, not just the fans who are viewing the race, but the competitors in the face.”
Gordon has not won at Talladega since 2007.
