(WIAT) – Alabama Supreme Court Justice Mike Bolin is now Jefferson County’s new lead attorney. Bolin’s hiring was approved by Jefferson County commissioners in a 3-2 vote Thursday morning.
Commissioners George Bowman and Sandra Little Brown voted against the measure. Both say Bolin is well qualified for the position but expressed concern about the speed of the hire. Justice Bolin apparently agreed to take the job just a day before the vote.
According to the Supreme Court of Alabama’s website, Bolin is a lifetime resident of Jefferson County. He has also served as the county’s Probate Judge. Bolin’s complete biography can be found on the Alabama Supreme Court website: http://judicial.alabama.gov/Bios/bolin.cfm.
The governor will appoint someone to take Boilin’s seat on the Supreme Court. That will happen within 30 days. That’s when Bolin will start with Jefferson County.
Jeff Sewell was forced from the top attorney spot earlier this month. Commissioners forced him to retire after citing concerns over job performance. His career with the county span two decades.
