(WIAT) — From cutting, to coloring, to styling – cosmetology students at Huffman High School love working with hair.
Teacher Mary Humphrey is the reason the students are so passionate.
“Mrs. Humphrey does everything,” student Ashley Jones said. “She helps [the students] do different hairstyles.”
Mrs. Humphrey loves her students just as much. She wanted to inspire them and expand their horizons by taking them to the world famous Bronner Bros International Hair Show in Atlanta.
She applied for a $1,000 grant from CBS42’s “One Class At A Time” program.
Mrs. Humphrey received some great news recently.
Huffman High School is getting the money, and Mrs. Humphrey’s students are going to a hair show that they will never forget.
Students will also have the chance to learn from the best of the best, such as celebrity stylist Kim Kimble.
Kimble works on stars like Beyonce.
While Mrs. Humphrey is preparing them for a career in cosmetology, she is also building lifelong relationships.
Her students frequently call her and ask her for help doing certain things.
“I have the opportunity to see some of the things we’ve done in class bloom and blossom to be wonderful hair stylist,” Humphrey said.
After their trip to Atlanta, perhaps they’ll bloom and blossom as hair stylists even more.
