Special Olympics held in Tuscaloosa

(WIAT) — Athletes have been training all year for the opening of the 2013 Special Olympics, and their hard work finally paid off on Thursday.

Law enforcement from across Tuscaloosa ran with the Special Olympics torch to kick off the track and field events at Central High School.

The competition featured 21 events.

Athletes participated in sports ranging from aquatics, to golf, to bowling.
