PELHAM, AL (WIAT) – The Pelham Panthers avenged last year’s series loss to Spain Park on Saturday. Behind solid pitching and explosive hitting, the Panthers rocked the Jags 9-1 and out of the AHSAA baseball playoffs in game three of their 2nd round series. Sophomore Sam Finnerty pitched a complete game 3 hit shutout to preserve the win for Pelham. Spain Park jumped in front after a passed ball in the 3rd inning. In the top half of the 4th inning the Panthers busted the game open when Senior center fielder Fletcher Johnson blasted a 3-run home run into the trees in left field. “I thought it was going to be a sac fly,” said Johnson. “It’s crazy how the wind caught it and kept going,” said head coach Sean Anderson.

Pelham now advances into the 3rd round of the playoffs where they’ll travel to play Baker on Friday.
