BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The wife of slain civil rights leader Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. now has a memorial near that of her husband.
A rose garden was planted for Coretta Scott King Saturday. It’s in Birmingham’s Kelly Ingram Park. The breed of rose is actually new and named after Coretta Scott King.
Dr. Sharon Bell, the wife of Birmingham Mayor William Bell, planted the bushes and spoke about King’s legacy.
“She was not only an advocate, she was a musician, a very intelligent woman that everyone can emulate today,“ Dr. Bell said.
King would have turned 86 Saturday. Her rose garden site just feet in front of the statue of her husband.
