(WIAT) — The Birmingham Botanical Gardens were filled with everything from clowns to storybook characters on Tuesday.

Students of the Better Basics program visited the gardens, and the clowns and characters were on hand to celebrate the young readers.

Tuesday’s festivities were in honor of students who have shown great improvement in reading.

The non-profit organization serves hundreds of at-risk students across the Birmingham-area.

The organization makes reading available to those who may not have adequate access to books.
