(WIAT) — The Gate City community is plagued by crime and, more often than not, guns are involved.
In March, a man was killed in the same area as the shooting that occurred on Monday.
Police say 23-year-old Antawon Cowans was shot while in his car.
The incident happened at the intersection of Joppa Avenue and Georgia Road.
Cowans continued driving down Joppa and crashed into a power pole.
23-year-old Charles Gregory is accused of shooting Cowans.
Gregory is charged with Capital Murder.
Meanwhile, police are still looking for the person who ran over a child after a shooting last summer.
Four-year-old Deonte Mixon was hit and killed by a truck last July.
It happened as he ran home to escape gunfire that erupted during an outside gathering.
Two children and two women were hit by bullets during the chaos.
Anyone with information that may help police catch Deonte’s killer can call Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777.
Those who choose to call Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and will not have to appear in court.
