Young mother killed by stray bullet had hopes of being police officer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Violence in a Birmingham community has claimed the life of a young mother of three.

Sheri Williams died Monday afternoon after bing struck by a stray bullet in her Gate City home. Her two week old baby, who was in her arms at the time, was unhurt. Now he and two other young children have lost their mother.

Her mother says the 24-year-old old had hopes of becoming a police officer and wanted to move from the Gate City area because she feared violence.

I never thought it would happen to her. She was a good mom, she was a good role model for her children, Rinda Williams tearfully said as she talked about her daughter.

The fatal shot came from across the street. Investigators are looking for two people who here involved in an altercation there.
