TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tuscaloosa may be getting a new sheriff in the near future.
Governor Robert Bentley appointed Billy Sharp as Tuscaloosa’s interim sheriff in March.
Sharp will stay in that role until Governor Bentley interviews all of the candidates and announces a successor.
Tuscaloosa County is in need of a sheriff because its former sheriff, Ted Sexton, took a job with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office.
Sharp has indicated that he does not plan to run for the position in the future.
