(WIAT) – Race fans could be in for a wet weekend at the Aaron’s 499 on Sunday. Forecasts show a big chance of rain throughout the weekend.
Track officials say safety is primarily up to the fans in attendence. Track President Grant Lynch says they provide the most up to date information, but there is no way they can provide shelter for 100,000+ fans.
And most fans say they’re prepared for the big weekend. Driver flags, gas grills and campers are the biggest pieces of race gear, but there are others. One group from Russellville is spending the weekend living in tents. Jimmy Thompson made sure the check the weather forecast before getting to the campground. And it’s a good thing he did. He’ll spend race weekend living in a tent, so he made sure to bring extra tarps to put on top to keep the rain out.
