BIRMINGHAM, AL (WIAT) – Despite falling behind 4-0 to the country’s 18th ranked team, UAB baseball came back to beat Rice 10-9. The Blazers were fueled by a grand slam from Ryan Prinzing. UAB improved their record to 18-29 & 4-12 in C-USA play.
Rice (29-15, 9-7), one of the top baseball programs in the country, has now dropped four of the past five meetings with the Blazers. It marked the first time since May 24, 2012 UAB knocked off a ranked opponent.
“It was very tough conditions to play in today,” head coach Brian Shoop said. “The wind blowing straight out and caused for a chance of errors and home runs and we were just able to get one more run.”
