(WIAT) — In April, CBS42 discovered a Birmingham industrial facility operating with expired environmental permit coverage.

That discovery prompted a state investigation.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management tells CBS42 that they paid a visit to KMAC Services on Thursday.

An inspection of the recycling center was conducted.

The data collected during the inspection is currently being reviewed.

In April, CBS42’s investigation discovered that the company is discharging storm water into a creek with expired permit coverage.

That creek feeds into the area’s drinking water supply.

CBS42 will continue to follow the story and will update as more information becomes available.
