(WIAT) – The proposed gun bill which has been approved by the  Alabama House would allow owner’s to carry a loaded pistol in their car as long as they have a concealed carry permit … owner’s wouldn’t even need a permit, if the gun was unloaded.

This latest push by lawmakers that would relax restrictions on the right to bear arms even further, however, not everyone is pleased.

Opponents argue the legislation puts workers at risk since many were hired under a law that prohibited workers from having loaded weapons in their vehicles on the job.

One Jasper resident says she doesn’t want a pistol anywhere near a  co-workers vehicle while at work.

Another women says she would feel safer if she had a  loaded pistol within reach to defend herself if attacked.

Representative Ed Henry sponsored the bill. He says the purpose is to protect the rights of citizens to carry firearms.

Henry says carrying a firearm is every alabamian’s right … and allowing concealed loaded pistols is a privilege many consider necessary.

Henry says he believes this legislation would allow employees at schools to carry guns on campus as long as they are kept locked in their vehicles.

If this legislation passes it could go into effect in September.
