Pinson Valley Looks For a Different Outcome in Playoffs

Pinson Valley prepares for Southside-Gadsden

PINSON, AL (WIAT) – The Pinson Valley Indians baseball team is familiar with this spot. Third round. State playoffs. Everything at stake. Only Southside-Gadsden standing in their way. That was the exact scenario last season for Pinson Valley. Except last year didn’t turn out the way the Indians would have hoped. They were defeated 2 games to 1 in a best-of-three series at home. This year, the Indians (30-11) are doing everything they can to get a different outcome.

“I feel like we’re going into this more confident than last year because we were struggling hitting last year going into the third round. It’s special to come up with these guys playing with them all these years, it’s nice,” says Pinson Valley Outfielder Scott Falkinberg.

The new year meant a clean slate for several of the Indians 14 seniors. Even if that meant some weren’t guaranteed anything by a new coach.

Head coach Shane Chappell says changes were all about turning the page to a new year. “Really it gave everyone a clean sheet to start with and they had to kind of get to work and prove to me that they deserve to play whether they were a starter last year or they were on the bench. Several guys that were kinda flip flopped from last year just because some new ideas new philosophies.”

The Indians face off against Southside-Gadsden on Friday at 5 pm in the first of a three-game series.
