PINSON, AL (WIAT)- It was a cold night at Pinson Valley High School, but the Indians (32-12) baseball team sent their fans home with a warm feeling Saturday night, beating Southside-Gadsden 4-3 and advancing to the state semifinals in Class 5A.

Trailing 3-2 to Southside-Gadsden (29-13) heading to the top of the 7th inning, PVHS plated 2 runs to go up 4-3. Josh Hines singled home Scott Falkinberg for the go-ahead run. In the bottom half of the 7th, Auburn commitment Bailey Chesser allowed a Panther runner to third, but Hines once again came through in the clutch with a diving catch for the final out.

Pinson Valley head coach Shane Chappell says he wasn’t surprised at Hines heroics “He’s been down the stretch one of our best defensive players and it couldn’t have been hit to a better guy. If I had somebody I would pick that’s the guy I want it hit to.” Hines, still out of breath from his emotions echoed his coach’s sentiments, “Man that’s one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever had in my life. I love making plays for my team. It just feels great, it’s one of my favorite things to do man.”

Pinson Valley advances to the state semifinals. They await the winner of the Homewood-Hartselle series, which concludes on Monday at 5 pm at Hartselle High School.  If Homewood advances the Indians would host, if Hartselle wins, Pinson Valley would travel to Hartselle.
