Amtrak train collides with car in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE: The names of the two people killed in Sunday’s accident have been released. The two people were 40 year old Consuelo Laverne Gurley, and 12 year old Micheal Shereef Earskin.

ORIGINAL: CBS42 is on the scene of an accident involving an Amtrak train and a small car on Harrison Avenue and 17th Way SW.

Two people traveling in the car are confirmed to have died.

Amtrack spokesperson, Craig Schult  says the accident happened at 12:32pm and involves  train #19 from New York to New Orleans.

83 passengers on board, no injuries on the train.
