(WIAT) — A rumor driving hundreds to a Harpersville City Council meeting has been settled.
Residents of the Shelby County town had gotten word that the city was considering cutting the fire department completely.
The alleged measure would have also cut the police department.
However, the Mayor of Harpersville tells CBS42 that, while it was an option, cutting the two departments was never seriously considered.
Instead, the mayor is proposing a .01 sales tax that will go to a vote on June 3, 2013.
