LEXINGTON, KY (WIAT) – Alabama couldn’t come back twice against the SEC’s top-seeded softball team on Thursday. Florida out-slugged Alabama 8-4, eliminating the Tide from the SEC Softball Tournament. Alabama dropped to 42-13 on the season with the loss.
The Gators jumped to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning, but Alabama rallied to even the score in the 5th inning. Florida took the lead for good in the sixth inning as Kristi Merritt hit a three-run home run giving Florida a 7-4 lead. They would add one more run to make up the final margin.
Alabama now awaits word on their NCAA tournament seed. The softball selection show will air on ESPNU on Sunday at 9 pm.
