(WIAT) – A Birmingham high school math teacher has been named the 2013-2014 Alabama Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Alison Grizzle teaches math to 11th and 12th graders at P. D. Jackson-Olin High School.
She says she enjoyed the chance to talk about her school district during the selection process, because she is passionate about her students and Birmingham City Schools.

The State Superintendent made the announcement at an event on Wednesday.
“Today I got back and I drove home and there was just students everywhere in the parking lot with pom-poms and shakers and it was, it was so exciting! The band was out there, the drummers were out there playing and dancing and it was just really fun,” said Grizzle.
