CHARLESTON, ILL (WIAT) – It took a while, but the Jacksonville State softball team defeated SIU Edwardsville 2-0 in a game that was delayed due to rain on Thursday. With the win the Gamecocks advance to the winner’s bracket in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

The sixth-seeded Gamecocks (28-25) began the game with the second-seeded Cougars at 12:30 pm CST on Thursday & made it two innings before the weather delayed the game. When play resumed the Gamecocks rode the pitching of Tiffany Harbin, who struck out 14 batters, to the victory.

JSU now moves into Saturday’s winner’s bracket final against the winner of Friday’s game between No. 1 seed and regular-season champion Eastern Illinois and No.  4 seed Murray State. The Gamecocks’ next game will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s Championship game.
