Some businesses still deciding whether to offer healthcare to full-time employees

(WIAT) — The portion of the Affordable Care Act that requires some businesses to offer healthcare to full-time employees goes into effect in 2014.

That means many businesses are deciding whether they will offer healthcare or pay a fine.

Businesses with 50 or more employees will be fined $2,000 per emplyoee  if they do not offer a healthcare plan.

Some business owners may opt to pay tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

Healthcare analysts say that many businesses think paying for healthcare will actually pay off.

A survey of more than 500 large businesses found that most plan to continue offering healthcare coverage for the next five years.

Only 26 percent are confident they will provide the benefit a decade from now.

If a company does not offer healthcare, employees can get coverage through state or federal health exchanges.
