TALLADEGA, Ala. (WIAT) – The man accused of killing a 2-year-old boy in Oxford tells CBS42 News he didn’t have anything to do with the child’s death.

Bryan Butts was arraigned in a Talladega County courtroom Friday morning. Investigators say he beat his girlfriend’s child to death. The child, Cody Rollins, died of blunt force trauma May 3rd.

As he was leaving the courtroom Friday morning, CBS42 reporter Scott Packard asked Butts what happen. “I was in the kitchen Friday morning. I was making some breakfast and I heard a big boom. He was laying behind my daddy’s recliner. I picked him up and set him on the couch. He went limp and that’s the only thing I know,” Butts said before being led down a hall.

Investigators have not released a motive in the case. Butts is being held without bond.
