HARTSELLE, AL (WIAT) – The Pinson Valley Indians magical run in the state baseball playoffs came to an unceremonious end at the hands of the Hartselle Tigers on Saturday. Hartselle (40-14) knocked off the Indians (32-14) 7-2 in Game One and run-ruled PVHS 10-0 in Game Two. They now advance to the state finals series against Spanish Fort (38-7) who beat Russell County in three games.

Spanish Fort will be attempting to win their fourth consecutive 5A State Title in baseball.

Game one got off to a good start as Pinson Valley scored first on a Austin Little single, which brought home Jarod McCurdy. But Hartselle’s ace on the mound, South Carolina signee Jackson Smith, settled down and mowed Indian batters down the rest of the game. He only allowed 3 hits in 6 innings, striking out 3.

Game two was a carry over of game one. Hartselle’s bats were hot early and often against Pinson Valley starter Bailey Chesser. The game was broken open in the 3rd inning by a Brett Blackwood 2-run home run. Tillman Landers was able to tame the Pinson Valley bats the rest of the way as Hartselle slammed Indians pitching to the tune of 10-0.

Pinson Valley head coach Shane Chappell said despite the loss, he knows his team will be successful on and off the field. “Our seniors, man they’ll have a special place in my heart for years to come. They’re a gritty group and that’s what I told them. This is their third coach in four years and to accomplish what they’ve accomplished in spite of the coaching changes, it really hasn’t mattered who was coaching or who was leading them. Those guys are winners.”

Pinson Valley has won their area for three consecutive years & advanced to at least the quarterfinals three consecutive years.
