254 new road and bridge projects announced by Governor Bentley

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — On Monday, Governor Robert Bentley announced more than 250 road and bridge improvement projects that will now be able to begin as a part of the Rural Assistance Match Program (RAMP).

The program allows additional counties to take part in the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP), an initiative to improve roads across the state.

ATRIP only funded 61 counties initially. However, with Monday’s announcement, all 67 counties have received ATRIP projects.

Governor Bentley established ATRIP in an effort to assist areas across Alabama access funding needed for essential road and bridge improvements. The project announced on Monday is accessible to counties “that are unable to meet the 20 percent local funding match required to participate in ATRIP.”

RAMP was established by Senate Bill 192 to complement ATRIP.

“Now, every county in Alabama has the opportunity to participate in ATRIP, thanks to a collaborative effort by the ATRIP Advisory Committee, Governor Bentley and ALDOT,” Lt. Governor Kay Ivey said on Monday. “Some of Alabama’s counties, particularly in rural areas, needed more leverage to jump-start infrastructure improvements in their communities.
