Accident in Tuscaloosa leaves driver with serious injuries

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — According to a release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, officers responded to an accident with injuries around 2 p.m. on Monday.

The accident occurred on East Skyland Boulevard.

When the officers arrived on the scene, witnesses described what took place. Witnesses say that the driver of a red Chevy truck was stopped in traffic heading west.

He opened the door on his side of the vehicle and fell out of the driver’s seat.

The vehicle started to roll forward and the victim was trapped in the seat belt and dragged by the vehicle.

Eventually, the seat belt came undone and the driver was no longer trapped. Witnesses say the vehicle may have run over the driver.

The vehicle then crossed multiple lanes of traffic, ran through a fence and into an occupied room at a nearby Days Inn.

Nobody inside the room was harmed, but the driver was transported to DCH with serious injuries.
