(WIAT) — Crews finished putting up the scaffolding on the Washington Monument on Wednesday – 555 feet off the ground.
Now, repair work to the marble plates and stonework will begin.
The tourist attraction has been closed since it was damaged in a 2011 earthquake.
The restoration project is expected to cost about $15 million.
