BIRMINGHAM, AL (WIAT) – The General Manager of the Baltimore Ravens, Ozzie Newsome, just won his second Super Bowl with the team, but he can’t avoid the rumors of an impending return to his alma mater. “As far as me coming back to the University of Alabama, or coming back to the state; at some point I will, but I’ve got a very good job. I enjoy getting up going to work every day. I work for a great owner.”

Newsome was the keynote speaker for the Changed Lives Christian Center at The Club in Birmingham on Thursday.

He also addressed the recent retirement of former Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain. “I was informed on Monday of this week that his plan was to retire and I respect that decision. Rolando is a very good person and I think in the end this thing is going to work out for him.” When asked if he gave an indication of an eventual return to pro football, he directed questions to McClain himself.

The Ravens have 12 former SEC players on their current roster. Recent concerns have cropped up about SEC players being more injury prone due to the pounding they take in one of the nation’s toughest leagues. “I don’t see it as a concern. People get injured. You can recover from injuries, but I don’t think you can take away the competitiveness from the SEC and what it does for the players playing in it,” Newsome said.

As for his future, he’s only concerned about reaching the top of the mountain again in Baltimore. “I’m just looking forward to winning a third Super Bowl. That’s my challenge right now.”
