(WIAT) – As Jefferson County begins to see light at the end of the bankruptcy tunnel, commissioners have hired a new lead county attorney.
Carol Sue Nelson, a Birmingham attorney, will soon become the first female attorney in the county’s history.
Commissioners Joe Knight and Jimmie Stephens voted against the hire.
Both wanted more time to review the other candidates.
However, all of the commissioners speak very highly of Nelson’s experience.
“She has an impeccable record,” Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown said on Thursday. “She has great experience in labor litigation and consent decree. She is going to be good for Jefferson County.”
Nelson will earn $224,000 a year.
She is set to begin with the county on June 3, 2013.
