BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – More than twenty people face charges related to illegal gambling after an afternoon raid in Birmingham.
The sign outside the building in the 100 block of 9th Street North advertised a photography business. Friday police carried 33 machines. Investigators say each device is illegal.
Two of the 22 arrested are charged with operating an illegal gambling establishment. The rest are charged with visiting it.
Police say the photography sign on the building was a decoy.
“The closest thing they had to that business was surveillance equipment to see who was approaching the business itself,“ Birmingham Police Sgt. Johnny Williams said.
