COLUMBUS, OH (WIAT) – Auburn’s men’s golf team made a strong move in the Columbus Regional on Friday. The Tigers are within two strokes of the leaders, UNLV & South Carolina at 18-over for the tournament.
Auburn fired a 9-over-par 293 on Friday to climb into a tie for third place with Stanford. The top-five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Atlanta.
“We are in a great position to win a golf tournament,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “The guys have really battled hard the last two days. We have to just go out there and stick to our game plan and play hard and play smart and put ourselves in a position to win the golf tournament.
“All year, we have played tough golf courses preparing for this situation and preparing for the National Championship. We just have to go out there and control what we can control and worry about ourselves and go out there and have some fun.”
Three Tigers are tied for 10 at 3-over for the tournament. Michael Johnson, Jake Mondy & Dominic Bozzelli find themselves knotted up with three other players
Auburn will tee off Saturday at 7:40 a.m. CT with UNLV and South Carolina.
