TUSCALOOSA, AL (WIAT) – Alabama softball was finally able to put away a pesky Western Kentucky team 7-6 on Saturday in the second day of the NCAA Softball Regional in Tuscaloosa. Alabama improved their record to 44-13 on the year and moves on to Sunday championship rematch against those same Hilltoppers.
Western Kentucky now must beat Alabama twice on Sunday to advance. Alabama needs only to win the first game on Sunday, which is scheduled to begin at 1 pm. A second game, if necessary would be played at 3:30 pm.
Molly Fichtner provided the winning hit in Saturday’s contest. She hit a sac-fly driving home Andrea Hawkins to score the game winning run.
Alabama sophomore pitcher Leslie Jury picked up the win in relief. She allowed just one hit in two innings of work. Western Kentucky beat SC Upstate 3-0 in the final game on Saturday night. SC Upstate knocked out Jacksonville State earlier in the day.
