ATHENS, GA (WIAT) – Second-round action at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship was suspended Wednesday as inclement weather moved into the Athens area. The second round with resume on Thursday morning followed by the third round. Auburn’s women’s golf team had a little more than one hole remaining on the day when the delay came.

The Tigers moved up four spots to 20th at 23-over par. Auburn was 6-over with three players still on the course.

“We played a lot better today and it was good to see the team out there with some confidence,” said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. “We had some good momentum going there on the back nine and I think the weather messed with that a little, but I was still proud of the way they came out and battled today.”

Play was suspended twice during the course of the day.

“I think everyone was a lot more comfortable today and it showed,” said Evans. “We can’t let this weather stop us, we have to come back out here tomorrow with a good finish and then get right back to work.”

Marta Sanz carded a 3-under 69 to lead the Tigers.
