Homicide investigation launched in connection with Tuesday evening shooting

(WIAT) – The Birmingham Police Department has launched a homicide investigation that is being conducted by detectives with the department.

The investigation stems from a Tuesday evening shooting that left 27-year-old Lederious Peoples dead from a gunshot wound.

According to a report from the Birmingham Police Department, the shooting occurred on Tuesday around 7:45 p.m. in Ensley in the 1800 block of Avenue T.

Officers responded to investigate reports of a person shot and found Peoples suffering from a gunshot wound.

Members of Birmingham Fire and Rescue were dispatched onto the scene, and Peoples was taken to UAB Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Birmingham Police Department has not made any arrests at this time, but anyone with information pertaining to the case is encouraged to call the BPD Homicide Unit at (205) 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-777.
